- Donald Trump’s earlier national security adviser Michael Flynn, who pleaded accusable to lying to the FBI, was also later pardoned by the president and wants to clarify it.
- If we have one country under God, we have to have one religion” in the United States.
Of course, Christianity is that one religion for Flynn. After all, exit polls show that 75% of white evangelicals voted for Trump in the 2020 election.
Flynn made these remarks on Saturday in Texas as part of the “Reawaken America Tour,” a conservative conference attended by other Trump supporters such as Roger Stone and My Pillow CEO/election conspiracy peddler Mike Lindell.
The right’s outrage would be deafening. However, there has been no discernible backlash from conservatives in response to Flynn’s remarks. The opposite has occurred.
GOP Ohio Senate candidate Josh Mandel, Jewish, appears to see Flynn’s remarks as consistent with his own “Judeo-Christian values”: In response to the backlash, Mandel tweeted, “We Stand with General Flynn.”
“The US was not founded like a secular nation.” Politics truly brings together strange bedfellows. This is the same Flynn who repeatedly promoted debunked conspiracy theories about an effort to inflict Islamic Sharia law on the All country in 2016.
“This Sharia law business, what’s going on right here in the state of Texas is incredible,” Flynn said at a San Antonio event hosted by ACT! for America, an anti-Muslim hate group according to the Anti-Defamation League.
Flynn falsely claimed in another 2016 speech in Texas that there are Muslims who want to dominate America by commanding Islamic law: “I want people to understand that there are many laws that are not our laws that others attempt to impose,” he said.
