New COVID-19 cases discovered in Pond Inlet, Nunavut

COVID-19 cases discovered

Nunavut’s only active case has been reported.

After 1 case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Pond Inlet, Nunavut’s top public health officer is increasing public health restrictions.

Most patients infected with COVID-19 will have mild to moderate symptoms and will recover without any special treatment. However, some will become critically unwell also require emergency care.

Symptoms:

  • fever
  • difficulty breathing
  • cough
  • pneumonia in both lungs needing support for breathing

In a Friday press release, Dr. Michael Patterson said that an individual in the hamlet of nearly 2,200 people had symptoms on November 5 and was promptly isolated and tested. The test came back positive today, admitting to Patterson.

“Out of an abundance of caution, community public health limitations will be increased as contact tracing ongoing,” Patterson added in the release. While schools and daycare centers can continue to operate, Patterson stated that masks are required in public areas.

Outdoor gatherings are also restricted to a maximum of 25 people. In addition, indoor meetings in residences are now limited to a maximum of 5 people, including those who live there. On the other hand, indoor public gatherings are limited to 25 persons or 25% of the facility’s capacity in venues like gyms, fitness centers, libraries, galleries, and arenas.

COVID-19 cases in Pond Inlet

Except for personal services such as beauty salons and hairdressers, non-essential enterprises can remain open. According to the government of Nunavut, which was last updated on November 10, this is the sole active case of COVID-19 in the territory.

Those who have been vaccinated must wear a mask for 14 days after arriving in the region and informant for symptoms. Unvaccinated visitors currently in Nunavik must remain at a Nunavut isolation site in southern Canada before proceeding to Nunavut.
